The dynamic growth of communication technology in developing countries creates opportunities to leverage on mobile technologies for disaster preparedness and response. We aim to design a mobile application that provides farmers in developing countries weather updates and market crop price information—with a special emphasis on an added tab for emergencies.
The greatest potential impact that mobile applications can provide is not only in providing news and information updates from government agencies to disaster struck zones, but also as a mechanism through which affected individuals can communicate needs and on-the-ground updates to the necessary agencies.
We prize local agency and this will be achieved by setting up a local institution, which will be tasked with ensuring updates of weather, crop price, as well as disaster relief and response information.
This mobile application can also serve as a tool to emphasize disaster preparedness – awareness and mobilization drills.
